OTSD 6th Grade Outdoor School 2024-25

Boring Middle School

Your 6th grade student has the opportunity to participate in Outdoor School. Outdoor School is an important part of our science curriculum and includes 3 days of field trips to local camps. There is no cost, thanks to grant funding through Measure 99 - Outdoor School for All. Outdoor School is a long-standing Oregon tradition in which students travel to nearby camps to learn about science, forestry, ecology, wilderness skills and more. This experience is an important part of our science curriculum, and also a fun field trip for kids. Students will learn in hands-on, field study groups in the nearby forests of Estacada, at Eagle Fern Camp. Coyle Outside will be providing our Outdoor School experience this year.

Students will participate in Outdoor School for three days - Monday, September 30, Tuesday, October 1, and Wednesday, October 2.  Our Outdoor School program will NOT involve an overnight experience, but will be day field trips. Teachers will also lead lessons before and after Outdoor School to tie classroom learning to the field studies. 6th grade students at Boring Middle School will travel to nearby Eagle Fern Camp in Estacada. Teachers from BMS will be traveling to Outdoor School with the students, and will support Outdoor School staff with supervision.

The daily schedule will be as follows:

9:05am - Load buses to depart for camp

9:30am - Arrive at camp

2:15pm - Load buses to depart camp (1:15 on Wednesday)

2:40pm - Arrive back at Boring Middle School (1:40 on Wednesday)
