Welcome to Boring Middle School 5th Grade Families
We are excited to welcome you and your student to Boring Middle School! Our whole staff looks forward to working with you and your child for the next three years. The transition from elementary school to middle school is a big transition. To help ensure a smooth transition, we will be providing a series of events that will help prepare students and families for middle school.
Middle School Admin Visits
During these visits, Morgan MacGregor, BMS Principal, will visit 5th-grade students in their elementary classrooms. During these visits, Mrs. MacGregor will review key information with 5th graders such as; What does a middle school schedule look like? What will I be learning in my core classes? What types of electives can I choose? What are some of the rules and expectations at middle school? and so much more. In addition to receiving information, there will be lots of time for 5th-grade students to ask questions. Students will also be provided information on how they will forecast for electives. Forecasting information that will be presented to students is linked below. Students will also come home with an Academic Programming Guide Booklet and Forecasting Form that needs to be completed by Tuesday, April 9th, and turned in to your 5th grade teachers. Forecasting forms require a parent/guardian signature.

Online Verification
Each year, all families (including returning families to the school and district), must complete the online verification. This is where families update student information, contact information and request bus service for the following school year. Online Verification can be completed through your ParentVUE account.
School Supplies
This is our current school supply list. The student planner is a required material for all students and will be provided to students at the beginning of the year by the school. We will continue to have a school wide process using this organizational tool, where students will be required to record assignments every day in their planner. Parents should review the planner with their student each week. This is an attempt to improve school to home communication and teach students a lifelong organizational skill. Each student will receive a planner during the first week of school. If a student’s planner is lost, the replacement cost is $10.
Class Schedule and Lockers
Students’ schedules and locker assignments will go LIVE on ParentVUE and StudentVUE prior to Open House in mid-August. At that time students and families may inquire about schedule changes. Once school begins, schedule changes are no longer an option. Students will be assigned the same locker all three years and their locker will be located outside of their advisory classroom.
Open House Wednesday, August 28th from 5:30 – 7:00p.m.
The Open House relieves much of the first day of school jitters for our students. Open House is a drop in event. Families and students can come anytime between 5:30-7:00pm and stay as long as they would like. We encourage students and their families to practice going from class to class in the assigned order, stopping at each classroom to meet the teacher and see their classroom. Another essential part of Open House is allowing time for your student to practice opening their locker. Students are welcome and encouraged to practice as much as they need to start feeling comfortable.

If you need additional information or support in any of the areas listed below please come into the Main Gym during open house and stop by one or all of the following Information Stations.
